Why digital contact tracing for infection control can make such a positive impact for the Health & Care sectors

In today's healthcare environment, budget constraints, staff shortages, and long waiting lists are all major concerns. One critical issue at the heart of these challenges is healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs).

7% of patients contract HAIs during their hospital stay, often resulting in prolonged hospitalisation. In a typical 1,000-bed hospital, this means 210 beds are blocked daily due to infections. Yet, because only a few types of infections are reported, the true scale of this problem is often underestimated.

I’m the CEO and founder of Proxximos, experts in digital contact tracing technology. We help prevent the harmful and costly spread of communicable disease in both hospitals & care homes. We believe our technology will make a step change improvement in reducing HAIs and is also a system that improves readiness for future pandemics.

But we can’t do this on our own. We need healthcare professionals and industry partners to help realise the significant benefits that our solution can bring.

That's why we're partnering with the Lister Alliance via our unique collaboration with Cisco.

Proxximos offers a cutting-edge digital contact tracing system designed to tackle the HAI issue head-on. Our hyper-precise solution monitors patient, staff, and hospital asset movement and proximity with incredible accuracy.

With Proxximos, infection control teams and ward managers now have access to this precise, real-time, 24/7 contact tracing data. This now allows NHS or care home staff to get ahead of a pathogen spreading as once an infection is identified our solution immediately identifies potentially infected close contacts to that individual. By being so quick the individuals that may have been infected are not yet infectious or symptomatic. Staff can then decide on an appropriate package of interventions reducing the chances of onward transmission.

There are many expected benefits from the Proxximos Safer Care platform, and we anticipate we can deliver a 25% reduction in HAI’s. By reducing infection rates to such an extent, a typical 1,000 bed hospital would see the following benefits:

  1. 52 more beds available every day

  2. 1,400 few patient infections per year

  3. 50 fewer avoidable patent deaths per year

  4. £5m in direct savings per annum, and much wider indirect savings too

Our system therefore not only enhances patient & staff safety but also delivers significant cost savings.

A Multi-Purpose Tracking System

The benefits of a hyper-precise tracking system extend beyond infection control. Proxximos supports several other critical hospital initiatives, including:

  • Patient Flow Management: Real-time patient location data helps speed up patient flow, reducing waiting times and improving care efficiency.

  • Electronic Patient Records (EPR): Automating parts of data entry, such as recording patient visits to different departments, enhances record accuracy and reduces manual workloads.

  • Medical Device Asset Management: Real-time tracking of medical equipment ensures that assets are easily located, saving time and reducing losses.

  • Electronic Bed Capacity Management: Accurate, real-time bed location data helps free up more beds, improving hospital capacity.

We are dedicated to helping hospitals & care homes become safer to the risks of infection, save costs, free up beds, and enhance patient, resident & staff wellbeing.

Our innovative solutions are designed to provide healthcare settings with the real-time insight they need to be precise and in control. Watch our video to see how Proxximos is aiming to make a difference….
